The Story

This notecard set was produced on the occasion of the exhibition Jeff Koons: Split-Rocker at Rockefeller Center, New York, presented by Gagosian and organized by the Public Art Fund and Tishman Speyer. It includes eight blank folded notecards and envelopes, in a jacket case. The cards feature images of Split-Rocker installed at the Château de Versailles, France; Palais des Papes, Avignon, France; Fondation Beyeler, Riehen/Basel, Switzerland; and Glenstone, Potomac, Maryland; as well a Polaroid of the inspiration for the work.

Split-Rocker (2000) is a spectacular planted form that towers over thirty-seven feet high and features more than fifty thousand flowering plants. The inspiration for the sculpture came when Koons decided to split and combine the forms of two similar but different toy rockers—a pony belonging to his son, and a dinosaur.
